There are a lot of things you should know before making a choice, though. First, if you`re using PayPal now, what will you use for a shopping cart to take orders with a merchant account. Do you have (or will you get a programmer to set up a secure server. ) Do you have a shopping cart of your own, or will you need one. The fees for processing credit cards will vary by who you deal with, and by your monthly sales volume. When you`re checking fees, look to see how much extra you get charged for various things - is there a per-transaction flat fee on top of the percentage, for instance. What is the monthly "gateway" fee. Is there a monthly minimum fee if your sales are below some level, how soon after the transaction do you get your money. (it`s an affiliate link, but we were using them long before we signed up for their affiliate program. And be sure to read ALL the fine print in any contract before you sign it. It`s not unusual for merchant accounts to include a cancellation fee where you have to pay a couple of hundred dollars if you decide to stop using the processor in less than 2 or 3 years.
